Agreement to these terms

These terms are a binding agreement between you and Speakub covering your use of the Speakub app and this website. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Speakub.

We make these terms available before you register, and they remain available from the footer of this website at any time.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Speakub account.

Many learners are school students under 18. You may let a student under 18 practise using your account — as a parent, guardian or teacher — provided you supervise that use. If you do, you remain the account holder, you are responsible for everything done through the account, and you consent on the student's behalf to the handling described in our Privacy Policy.

Where a school licenses Speakub for its students, the school is the account holder. It accepts these terms on behalf of its students and is responsible for their use and for any consent required under local law.

Your account

Keep your sign-in details secure and do not share them beyond the supervised use described above. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You can delete your account, and the data attached to it, from Profile in the app.

Subscriptions and billing

Speakub offers a free trial, and Starter and Pro subscriptions billed monthly. Current prices and what each plan includes are shown on our pricing page.

Payment is taken by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms. We never receive your card details. Renewals, cancellations and refunds are managed in your App Store or Google Play account.

The free trial does not convert automatically into a paid subscription. When it ends, it simply ends — you are only charged if you choose to subscribe.

We do not issue refunds ourselves; all refund requests are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their policies. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — cancel it in your store account, or billing continues.

Schools and organisations

Schools and teams are licensed per seat and invoiced by bank transfer after a setup conversation. There is no online checkout.

Acceptable use

Use Speakub for its intended purpose: practising spoken English. Do not use it to break the law, to harass anyone, to upload content you have no right to, to attempt to access other users' data, or to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service.

Do not record other people without their knowledge and consent. You are responsible for the audio you submit.

Your recordings and content

You keep ownership of what you record and write. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to transcribe your audio, assess it, and produce your feedback and progress record.

We delete our copy of your audio once transcription and assessment are complete, and Speakub does not use your recordings, transcripts or feedback to train AI models. The providers who process your audio do so under their own terms. Our Privacy Policy sets this out in full.

Scores and feedback are not an official assessment

Speakub's scores, feedback and model answers are generated automatically and are intended as practice guidance. They are estimates, they can be wrong, and they are not a formal language assessment, a qualification, or a prediction of any exam result. Do not rely on them as a substitute for a teacher, an examiner or an accredited test.

Speakub is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority or any other examination body.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the service. We aim to keep Speakub available but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and features may change as the product develops.

If we make a significant change to these terms we will update this page and tell users, rather than relying on this page alone.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Speakub and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to do so by law. Where it is practical and lawful to do so, we will give you notice first and an opportunity to put things right.

Our intellectual property

The Speakub app, this website, the Speakub name and the software behind them belong to us. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable right to use the service; it does not transfer ownership of anything.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including under the Control of Exemption Clauses Ordinance (Cap. 71).

Subject to that, Speakub is provided on an “as is” basis. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profits or opportunity, or for any exam result, grade or outcome you attribute to using Speakub.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you use Speakub from another country, consumer protection rules there may still give you rights that this clause cannot take away.
